The Draft Legislative Programme

The Draft Legislative Programme (DLP) sets out the government's proposals for new laws for the next session of Parliament in draft form and gives you the chance to comment on the Bills before they're finally published in the Queen's Speech.

Making law in Britain

The government published its first Draft Legislative Programme in July 2007. The decision to publish a programme in draft supports the government's aim to open up the law-making process and increase public involvement.

The 2008-09 programme was published on 14 May 2008. You can view the whole document on the link below.

The programme gives you the chance to look at all the Bills being considered - but as a draft the government expects it to develop and change over the year. The content of individual Bills may change and new Bills may be added before the Queen's Speech as new issues arise and as a result of the consultation.

Making Your Voice Heard - DLP consultation

A public consultation on the 2008-09 programme ended on 6 August 2008. Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation by completing the consultation questionnaire, commenting on an individual Bill or suggesting new Bills.

The government will now be considering the responses received during the consultation. In the autumn, the government will publish a summary of the responses received.

Input from the consultation will be used to produce the legislative programme for the 2008-09 session of Parliament. The Queen's Speech will take place on 3 December 2008.

DLP - regional events

Regional consultative events are organised throughout the UK. Full details of where, the type of event and who will be at each event are announced on the Leader of the House of Commons website - check the link below, which will take you to an interactive map.
